The Odder Sea Theatre

How You Are

About

The starting point for this project was developed from a performance work written in text messages by Hobart Hughes and Teresa Bell. That work was for two people and this version starts with at least six. The exact number might be higher depending on where we take it. I do envisage the possibility of even the stage techs having parts in some fashion. We might also interview style ask members of the audience.

This script  is intended as a starting point to develop the final version. Basically it provides material that can be explored with improvisation, lighting, sound and props. The structure is more like a fictionalised documentary than a plot driven play. However the story elements exist mostly in reoccurring character and the connections that they make or dissolve.

How the nights will be structured.

I will be doing a series of exercises designed to develop character authenticity. Mostly these will be derived from Keith Johnston’s book for improvisation called Impro as well as these will be doing some simple physical movement routines.

As we move forward we will take parts of the development script and play with it; improvising and making it your own. We will assign roles and parts as we go trying as best as we can to get the right part and role to the right person.
